Background

In carbon credit procurement, the first hurdle is always the same: who is actually buying, from whom, and how much — and on what basis should a supplier be chosen? The evidence needed to answer that is scattered across overseas registries, English-language documents, and individual corporate disclosures, with no single place to check it across sources in Japanese.

This is especially true of the emerging CDR credits — direct air capture (DAC), biochar, mineralisation, enhanced weathering — where procurement by major global corporates is expanding rapidly as durable carbon removal, and where Japanese companies are beginning to look seriously in the context of GX policy and SBTi alignment. Practical information is harder to come by still.

CDR PRO independently collects and organises public information — registry transaction records, primary corporate disclosures — into a database that answers those questions from evidence. Emerging CDR credits, conventional credits (afforestation, forest management and the like), and the market as a whole can all be examined on the same screen, with the underlying populations kept distinct.

What CDR PRO Contains

1. Transactions — who is buying, from whom, and how much

Transaction analytics spanning more than 340,000 registry records, letting you read the market on a retirement (real demand) basis. Emerging CDR transactions can be filtered by removal pathway.

2. Supply-side assessment — comparing suppliers on their record

Assessment listings and individual profiles for carbon removal suppliers, centred on emerging CDR suppliers such as DAC and biochar. Compare across registration record, verified volume, and projects under development; save candidates to a shortlist for side-by-side comparison, notes, and CSV export.

3. Corporate disclosure — GHG and offset disclosures checked against primary sources

GHG emissions (Scope 1, 2 and 3) and credit and certificate usage for Japanese companies and major international ones such as Apple, BASF and Boeing — verified against primary disclosures including securities reports and ESG data books, and recorded with the original quotation. Non-disclosure is recorded as a fact in its own right (we do not conflate zero with undisclosed). Watching peers and comparable companies gives you a sense of the going rate for procurement. Announced CDR offtake purchases by Japanese companies are also organised with sources.

4. Reference — verifying the basis for quality and durability

The CDR methodology library shows how each methodology’s eligibility conditions and reversal risks connect to its actual track record. Alongside it sit compliance carbon prices, a climate litigation database, and a library of standards in the original text, including ICVCM CCP and VCMI.

5. The Procurement Playbook — so the database works even from a standing start

Even with no prior knowledge of carbon credits, reading the Procurement Playbook first is enough to put the database to work. Its 28 chapters and 140 sections lay out, in Japanese, everything from fundamentals through planning, procurement, contracting, internal approval, and post-procurement management.
